IPHONE FEVER! CATCH IT TODAY OR FOREVER BE AN OUTCAST =D

 

 

Today I didn’t really do much. Played a bit of metal slug on the Xbox, had lunch. Played urban terror and then went to work.

 

Came home, showered. more urban terror. Put some photos on the photo-frames I bought today. And yeah..now writing this blog.

well that’s not really what this post is about, as you could probably tell from the blog title.

 

IPHONE IS COMING OUT. COMING OUT JULY 11th! or so the mass media will have you believe. Here’s to hoping it actually DOES come out rather than apple pulling everyone’s leg and fucking us over on July 11 with announcements we will have to wait till next year somewhere to get the iphone > _> ”

 

I remember, once upon a time, when the original ipods came out, apple had just taken the leap and entered the portable digital music player market. I remember clearly, I said to myself and anyone who cared to listen at that time, that I would NEVER EVER buy any SHIT made by apple. You couldnt even GIVE THEM AWAY to me.

 

Come to just recently, I myself have bought something like 4 ipods. 1 for my car, 1 for myself to carry around, 1 for Eva bb~~ and 1 for dad.

Yeah. That’s a lot of ipods hey. Especially coming from a guy who originally said he hated ipod and apple in general.

 

The same guy is also now saying he wants an IPHONE D:

Seriously, you would not believe how many articles/blogs/irc chats I’ve read about the iphone and its arch rival, the n95 D: As opposed to people who only watched Steve Job’s speech the other day of the unveiling of the apple 3g.

Here is a few points i want to point out. These are just my opinions based on what I’ve read/seen. So please don’t hold me to anything I say. but please DO take them with a pinch of salt.

 

1. I BELEIVE the iphone will cost more than 199 USD outright.

Honestly, lets look at the current Australian market of mobile phones. Take for example, the n95, buying it outright will be anywhere between 600-900 AUD. Brand new, no stings attached. This will not include things like email and IM allowances. Moving down the price range, we have the middle of the range Nokia 6288, also a slide phone, this will cost around $288 AUD. This phone doesn’t support email or IM or other fancy things as far as I am aware. And YES. neither of these phones have a touch screen. Then even lower, there’s some other offering from Nokia for $58 i think, but thats really hardly even worth mentioning. Wouldn’t touch that with a 10 foot pole.

So what exactly makes you think, that an Iphone, which is supposedly, the big new thing, the next step in phone tech, something that can be purchased for under 200 USD?

Do you know why Americans can get theirs for under 200USD? Because its being subsidised. Companies such as AT & T pay for the Iphone upfront. Then they go and resell these phones to people but on the agreement that they sign up for 24 months and pay anywhere from 50USD to 80USD/month for data and call allowances. This people, is why its do-able.

but Josh, Steve Jobs said in his speech of the iphone 3g unveiling that it will be 199USD WORLDWIDE. MAXIMUM. !!!!111!!! ELEVEN!!!1 

YES I KNOW YOU NOOB. I’ve read the other posts and crap about it everywhere. But for the reason I stated above, its not economically sound to buy the phone off apple for..say 500USD and then sell it back to consumers at 199 USD without data plans to make money back like AT & T did. So even if optus and vodafone were to offer up iphones as prepaid, its going to be MUCH MUCH more than 199 USD.

 

2. In the unlikely event that the iphones DO sell for prices such as $199USD/each, Every noob and his dog is going to have one.

 

Sleek and Sexy? CHECK.

Touch Screen? CHECK.

Plays music? CHECK.

Fashionable? CHECK.

Able to look at/watch porn? CHECK.

 

In the end, everyone is going  to have one at these prices.  $199 USD ..i have to wonder what Steve Jobs was thinking. As Lucas said..

Does anyone realise what would happen if you could buy an iphone for 199 USD outright? What about higher end phones such as n95 and sony Ericsson etc etc? Who would buy them? Why would you want a $300 or more phone when you could get an iphone for $199?

Those companies would be totally fucked, market share wise.

And the result on society, well, its going to mean EVERYWHERE you look, its going to be freaken iphones. You wont be able to walk 10 meters in the CBD without seeing another iphone. Even in the ghettos, its going to be like that. Even though in the ghettos, 1/2 of them would be stolen units <___< ”

I personally dont have a problem with conforming with society in this instance, I just though its funny.
