Myth: Iphone 3g will cost 199 USD outright. Status: PLAUSIBLE

If you’ve happened to have the chance to converse with me about anything regarding the Iphone 3g, You would have noticed how I am incredibly skeptical that the Iphone 3g -8gb model can be bought outright for $199.

I mean its only logic right?

lets look at some basics here:

currently Optus is offering these phones:

the n95 -outright- can be upwards of $700

the 6288 – outright – $288

the 6300- outright – $199

YES. THATS RIGHT. In this current market, the 6300 can be purchased for 199 outright. That’s AUD I’d like to point out. Translated to USD is JUST over 187. So you can see, why at first I was skeptical. Iphone. the supposed n95..well..ULTIMATE phone killer..can be purchased for 199USD? CRAZY STUFF.

However, the phones mentioned are locked to the OPTUS network till you’ve recharged a set amount.

A quick search on Ebay with the keywords “iphone” reveals quite a few iphone first generation (unlocked of course) ranging from anywhere between 600-700.

It would probably be at this point, that a person with common sense would ask: but Josh, what’s the difference between the iphone 2g and the iphone 3g?

Well to tell you the truth. Not as much as you would think.

1. its thinner. im not exactly sure HOW MUCH thinner. But rest assured it will be MIGHTY thin. Its even going to make thinner mobiles such as the 6300 look like a fat arse. Just be careful not to snap it ok?

2. GPS – details about this are still a bit fuzzy. But im guessing you’ll be able to find your way around places like plaza with it etc fine…(not like you knew the way before right? -_ – )

3. Upgrade in browsing speeds. Instead of using the old EDGE protocol, the new 3g, as the name suggests, is going to be able to get 3g speeds. What does this mean for people like you? FASTER PORN DOWNLOADS. RIGHT ON!

4. You have to activate it in store. Unlike the first iphones which could be activated using a common copy of Itunes, iphones must be activated in store. Apple says its going to take 10-15 min. -_ – Looks like another reason not to get it on day 1 LOL.

5. THE PRICE DIFFERNCE. The original iphones fetched prices around 600-800. 16 gig..for $800…WTF? LOL That kinda money wouldn’t you think it should come with something like a 64 gig hard d – _ – ”” Anyway, as you may or may not have seen in the pic above, the 8 gig is supposedly a MAXIMUM of $199 . _ . ” so….

What does the iphone have in terms of features..other than that I’ve just discussed?

- 2 megapixel camera 

shit compared to todays standards. Especially for the supposed phone of the future.

-Touch screen

so? PDA’s since back in the day have have touch screen functionality. So does DS. BIG WHOOP.

-Email

Great..are you REALLY that obsessed with the Internet that you need to have access to the Internet 24/7?

-IPOD

as you might have read in the previous post, I already have quite a few of these. Not to mention, my current phone (nokia 6300) plays music. Not to mention, my car with $2000 sound system PLAYS MUSIC. not to mention I have a few actual mp3 players (NOT IPOD) lying around the place.

-Storage device

I already have a portable 120gig hard D, a few 2-4 gig, not to mention the ipods/mp3s.

-Plays videos

PORN ON THE GO. what more do I need to say?

-Organizer/Calendar.

Standard fair on mobiles. so not that much to get exited about.

-It plays games.

SO DOES EVERY OTHER MOBILE SINCE THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF SNAKE. (the thing that ate fruit. not the hero of mgs4. ho ho im so clever with my references)

-WIFI

YES YOU DONT NEED A COMPUTER TO WATCH YOUTUBE ANYMORE. OR A PS3 OR WHATEVER ELSE YOU’VE HACKED TO WATCH YOUTUBE. LOL.

 

 

In any case, if you couldnt quite grasp what I was going on about,

I was trying to say..an IPHONE outright..could WELL be plausibly bought outright for under $300 USD. YES I KNOW THE PRICE IS $199 USD. But you know how we Australians always tend to get screwed price wise.

eg.

ps3 in HK  – 350

ps3 in AUS – 600+

BASTARDS.
